About Kid Capri

Grammy Award-winning DJ, producer, and Hip Hop pioneer Kid Capri is one of the defining voices of the culture. Known worldwide as the "Guru of Mixtapes," he turned the DJ booth into a spotlight of its own, making the mixtape an art form and his name a brand as big as the artists he played.

His story began in his parents' Bronx home, where at age 8 he was scratching vinyl on his father's old Zenith stereo. As soon as he could hit the streets, he was selling his mixes and working local gigs, building the blueprint for DJ success that countless others would follow.

Capri went on to become the first DJ to perform on major networks like BET and VH1, and his studio work connected him with Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Madonna, and Heavy D. He earned a Grammy for producing "It's Like That" on Jay-Z's Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life, winner of Best Rap Album, and his voice runs through Kendrick Lamar's Pulitzer Prize-winning DAMN. as its narrator.

His reach extends well beyond the turntables. He set the tone on HBO's Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam, returned for Netflix's 25th anniversary special, served as a judge on VH1's Master of the Mix, and appeared in documentaries and Disney+ series. In 2022, he released The Love, his long-awaited album. On SiriusXM's Kid Capri's Block Party, he bridges generations, spinning old-school classics alongside new anthems.

As Hip Hop turned 50, he curated the anniversary segment at the BET Awards, performed at the ESSENCE Festival, and took the stage at the Hip Hop 50 concert at Yankee Stadium.

Today, Capri continues to evolve, producing new artists, bringing his classic mixtapes to Apple's streaming platform, and working on his next studio album. From the Bronx to stages around the world, he hasn't just witnessed Hip Hop's evolution. He has helped steer it.

A pioneer, innovator, and living Hip Hop legend.
